Spending the Holidays in 30A

The holidays are officially here, and there’s an excited energy in the air. While some are frantically trying to prepare their home to be full of long distant family, others are preparing to travel to meet up with other family, or just to treat themselves for a festive season. Whether you’re meeting family in 30A or coming to enjoy Christmas on the beach, don’t let the lack of snow trick you into thinking we don’t know how to do the holidays. In fact, a holiday trip to 30A may be different than any holiday season you’ve had before. Here are a few of the things you may want to check out while you’re here.

Baytowne on Ice

Sandestin is not known for the brisk, winter air that you might find throughout the rest of the country, but it is known for the village of Baytowne Wharf, which turns into Baytowne on Ice during the winter. A large skating rink opens and draws people from all over 30A. Skating is $14, including ice skates, and the first hour of every day is designated as a “kid’s skate,” making it the perfect stop for families trying to enjoy the holidays. However, anyone who likes to skate or wants to imagine a Christmas that’s a little more white can enjoy Baytowne on Ice. It’s great for dates, groups, or just solo skaters. It’s open all season and even after, into February.

Breakfast With Santa

If you celebrate Christmas, the season’s not complete without a visit to see Santa. At Breakfast With Santa, hosted by The Pearl hotel at Rosemary Beach, kids can get their picture taken both not only with Santa but Mrs. Claus, too. And while it can be a little boring for the grownups to have to wait for their kids to finish with Santa, that’s not a problem at this holiday event. Instead, you can enjoy the breakfast buffet, and the kids can, too. This is a reservation required type of event, so you’ll want to reach out to the hotel before December 16, but if you miss out this year, there’s always next year!

Seaside Farmers Market

The small, friendly community of Seaside hosts farmers markets throughout the year, but they also host special holiday farmers markets, including an occasional Christmas Eve farmers market for last minute shoppers. While you might be able to find a little holiday charm at the market in addition to friendly vendors, this farmers market is a must if you’re looking for inspiration or ingredients for a special Christmas dinner.

Christmas Feast

Not much of a cook but still want a Christmas feast? The Hilton at Sandestin hosts a special Christmas day feast at Sandcastles restaurant throughout the afternoon. Havana Beach and Grill at the Pearl also offers a 3-course Christmas dinner. You may be able to find bars and restaurants throughout the area offering a happy hour on Christmas day, as well.

Christmas will be here soon, but if you haven’t planned a trip to the 30A area for Christmas this year, start preparing for next year. The same holiday festivities will be here, and maybe even more exciting activities.
