4 Unique Things to Do Along Highway 30A

We know all the big tourist draws to 30A: the beaches and coastal dune lakes, bonfires and kayak tours. These are all great activities to enjoy whether you’re visiting or live here full time. But that’s not all there is to do in 30A. If you’re looking for something a little different, this is the list for you. Here are a few of our favorite things to do along 30A:

Drive Through Point Washington State Forest

Point Washington State Forest has hiking trails and roads much like any other park, but unlike any other park, you’re also allowed to drive off-road down their sandy trails. You’ll need a four-wheel drive vehicle sturdy enough to handle the rugged terrain, but if you have that, this can be a thrilling ride full of spectacular views.

Check Out the Local Art Scene

If you want to see something other than nature on 30A, check out the art scene. There are about 20 art galleries along the 24 mile stretch, including artists who often show off their artwork at the beach. There are also local photographers, such as Modus Photography, who have their own gallery where you can buy prints to decorate your home or take back from vacation if you live elsewhere.

Take an E-Bike Tour

Speaking of the art scene, why not tour the art of South Walton by e-bike? A touring method that was popular in Europe and is beginning to catch on in the United States, Eventure Tour Co. offers several tours of South Walton and the 30A area, all by e-bike. These are popular for tourists — and enthusiastic locals — who want to get in a good workout as they see the sights, but the electric motor allows the bike to run without your help when you’re tuckered out. In addition to their South Walton Artist Tour, there’s a foodie tour, a Grayton Beach bike tour, a tour of some of the historic sites, and several private or semi-private tours.

Get Your Diver Certification

Scuba diving may not be unique to 30A, but it could be new for you. If you’ve never scuba dived before and always wanted to, 30A Dive provides the opportunity. You have to be certified before you can scuba dive, typically with a PADI certification. At 30A Dive, you can take the PADI/SDI Open Water Course in just two days. Explore the rich underwater life as you learn how to scuba, as well as after you receive your certification. If you take to it particularly well, there are advanced courses as well as rescue diver courses.

 

The beach will always be there, and it will always be a great choice. But sometimes it’s good to remember that there’s more to 30A than just the beach.
